LG g3 wireless charging - If you plan to take the LG G3 from one of the U.S. carriers,
you may already know that the U.S. carrier is forcing you to purchase optional
accessories to allow wireless charging. The G3 in the UK and other countries
include wireless charging out of the box, as did Verizon G2 last year, but this
time a lot has changed in our home country. The operator greedy, we understand.
They want you to spend more on a phone that you just lock for two years or
spend hundreds to get the best out of it.
The good news is that Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint all
support Qi's wireless charging standards, so if you decide you want to get into
a wireless charging game, you have all sorts of options. Sellers on eBay will
provide you with a replacement that activates wireless charging around $40, but
also has no carrier branding. The wireless charger you're most likely to have,
most likely to work because it might be ready. Perform a search on Amazon for
Qi Chargers and you will have more options than you know what to do at a very
low price. Qi is amazing. Even Google uses it on all its Nexus products.
If you have an AT&T G3, unfortunately, everything is
different. The LG G3 on AT&T supports PMA wireless charging, not Qi.
AT&T is actually in bed with a PMA (Power Matters Alliance), another
wireless charging standard that is slightly purchased. Well, Starbucks does it,
if it matters. Oh, and Duracell was tasked with making a handful of Powermat
charging stations. Do the same Amazon search for the PMA charger and you'll see
what I'm talking about.
So what does this mean? Your wireless charging option is
limited to AT&T variants of the G3. You, mostly, are forced to purchase the
Duracell Powermat charging station, as all Qi stations will not work with the
PMA. You should also expect that someone is releasing a PMA ready-back cover or
other computer case type if you do not want to use the only currently available
option, fast computer case $60 with PMA replenishment made specifically for the
G3 model on AT&T.
People at XDA have tried using Qi plate and back charger
with AT&T variants, but it didn't work. Some have even tried to pick up the
pieces from the computer case PMA Quick Circle and put it on the regular backplate,
but also did not succeed. The wireless charging path is not beautiful for
AT&T G3.
So, if you purchased the G3 from AT&T, understand that
your wireless charging option is limited. You are forced into the PMA, the
wireless charging standard is not very standard.
